Outside World

With only one more day of 51, I stole some time for myself. A morning meeting took me out of the classroom, so I extended my sub coverage and drove in the opposite direction from work when it was done. Funny, I thought I'd be alone.

Who has time for mid-day yoga in this town? Turns out, a studio full of folks can pause for an hour of down dogs and chaturangas. I've always wondered what the deal is with all those daytime appointments on my hairdresser's calendar. Apparently, there's no time like 2 pm for a skin and hair treatment, based on the droves of people congregating at the salon today.

People were walking their dogs and jogging with friends. A whole lot of cars were on the road, zipping this way and that. The parade into Target had some bold Saturday energy for a Tuesday.

I almost rolled down my window to point my finger and yell, “Hey, I’m onto you. You’re not all on your way to a meeting or your kid’s teeth cleaning!”

Trains chugged along tracks to some glitzy city or another. Planes flying overhead--obviously escaping to some beautiful Caribbean island--made me wonder if anyone actually works anymore.

Tomorrow morning, I'll head to school like I always do. But now I know the deal. Y'all are having a pretty good time out here.

  1. yep - people don't understand how different our summer mode is from theirs, just like we have no idea what happens about town during weekdays for the other three seasons!!

  5. One day this could be us, but until then, we could take a personal day from time to time. I love your line about “bold Saturday energy for a Tuesday” and the fact you took some time for yourself.
