The flyer at the coffee shop boasted "Donkey Cuddling" at the country craft fair, but we didn't realize the donkeys were the star of the show. The Eastern Shore is home to a vibrant artists' community, so we were tempted by the possibilities of what this pop-up gallery might provide.
Inside the barn, vendors offered donkey key chains and oil paintings, donkey-shaped soaps, and donkey-themed Easter baskets. The sun shone in the barn cracks, leading us to the pen out back, where our sweet hosts welcomed anyone who desired a snuggle. I reached my hand through the fence to pat the soft head of one, and her big, gentle eyes looked deeply into mine. Two more stepped in for their turn, each winning me over with their fuzzy coats and an energy so mellow, I could melt.
