Spring Breakers

The conditions were right on Saturday

for a drive out of town

across the Bay Bridge

with my mother, my sister, 

and a trunk full of suitcases,

packed for a couple of days 

of health food breakfasts and skin care,

then dinners with cocktails,

followed by late-night talks

propped up on overstuffed hotel pillows

on one king-sized bed

together

even though

we had two.
