On the eve of Easter, images of resurrection are co-mingling with my reflections of the last 31 days. The mythical phoenix drops feathers until it is bare. Then it is reborn. New life emerges after it drops one special feather at a time.
When we write, we take a risk. Like feathers, our words have fallen from our bodies, all special in their own way. We tap on "submit" and the words are no longer ours alone, leaving us feeling a little bare, a little exposed. The mythical phoenix, however, promises rejuvenation. We write and drop our feathers for readers to discover. A small part of us dies, making way for new life.
This annual challenge is a time to honor the moments we deem worthy. We've made meaning of our most hectic days. Friends, students, and colleagues unite and connect to say, "We're alive!".
Well put! And like the phoenix, our words (its tears) can heal. And that healing has been an important part of what we all have experienced together. Thank you for a wonderful slice!
ReplyDeleteWonderful image and metaphor -- I'd like to apply it to blogging, which needs to make a comeback in these times troubled media
ReplyDeleteI like the phoenix analogy - and the idea that as writers we take risk. How true. "When we tap on submit..." I completely agree with your analysis of the feeling.
