Vacation at home is more fun when we can fit in a date night or two. Last night, we met up with one of my favorite winemakers and his wife. We ate oysters, east coast to contrast with their west coast roots, and later found a table at the trusty Tabard.
They've been to town before, but they still have an eye for trying what's particular to the region. Typically, we feel pretty lucky to live in a city that cares about food and drink. However, their Northwest Coast is well-known for plentiful resources. If you've seen any episodes of Portlandia, you know they take their farm-to-table concept seriously. Did our guests secretly look down their noses at our thin soil and tiny crabs? Nah, he was indeed keen on eating the crab cakes, but we all cleaned our plates, emptied our glasses, and most importantly, we talked late into the night.
Life lesson: Eat, drink, be merry.
Cheers to that!
