O is for On Your Mark

Our two-year-old was so excited by his dad's return home that he laughed with relief when he saw his bearded hero climb into the car at the airport yesterday. By Sunday morning, my own fatigue from single-parenting was setting in, but when nap time came, it was the baby who couldn't take it anymore. He cried for a good thirty minutes, "I want my daddy," before he settled in with his "soft blanky" and fell asleep. When the evening came and our family was intact again, he positioned himself at the door, placed his little fingers on the tips of his toes, and called, "On your mark, get set, go!" and raced around the loop of our kitchen again and again. His face glowed, pink cheeked, and sweet.

Life lesson: There's nothing wrong with saying what you want out loud.
